BACK TO THE FRANCE BRAIN BEE 2022 COMPETITION
On 26 March, the France Bee competition was held at the Institut du Cerveau.
Open to students in grades 3 to 12, this competition, which stems from the International Brain Bee created in 1988, aims to encourage teenagers to learn more about neuroscience and to pursue careers in research that will lead to progress in the discovery of treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases.
The Institut du Cerveau, as a French and European institute of excellence in nervous system research, is the official organiser of the French edition of the competition since 2019.

The online competition went very well overall and the various events went off perfectly and on time. The word of the organisers…
J.L : This is the fourth time that the Institut du Cerveau has organised the France Brain Bee competition. After two remote editions, we are very happy to have welcomed the students in our premises at the Institute, in the heart of the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital. This year again, the level of knowledge of the candidates was very impressive..
A.K : “We would like to congratulate the winner of the competition, Alexandre Ravel (Ecole Jeannine Manuel, Paris). He will benefit from an intensive training with the experts of the Brain Institute to prepare for the international competition, which the Institute will co-organise next July.

My name is Alexandre, I am 17 years old and I live in Paris. I am currently a senior at Ecole Jeannine Manuel, and I plan to study biology at Stanford University next year, with the goal of becoming a doctor. My interest in the brain stems (no pun intended) from my desire to understand the many complex molecular interactions that shape our unique personalities and especially how diseases alter them. The Brain Bee has given me the opportunity to pursue this interest while allowing me to learn more about the brain and to test and share my knowledge. Thank you very much for this opportunity and congratulations to all the participants!

My name is Parsh Jain, I am 15 years old and I study at ICS Paris. The brain has always intrigued me, I wanted to know how people around us are diagnosed with diseases or disorders. When I heard about a competition that would allow me not only to gain this knowledge but also to discover other brain processes, it piqued my curiosity and I signed up for France Brain Bee. Apart from satisfying my preconceived curiosity, the competition also made neuroscience a potential career.

My name is Sitong Liu. I’m 16 years old and I’m in the 10th grade at ICS Paris. I have always wanted to study biology. I hope to become a neurosurgeon in the future. I want to apply my knowledge to help other people in real life in the future. I enjoyed the Brain Bee competition. I learned a lot about the brain and our mind. In this competition I broadened my horizon and made many friends who share the same interests as me. My favourite part of the competition was diagnosing the patient, although it was also the most difficult part for me. It was a memorable experience.
THE BRAIN INSTITUTE WILL ORGANISE THE INTERNATIONAL BRAIN BEE 2022
The excellence of research and training at the Institut du Cerveau will also be at the heart of the International Brain Bee, the international competition, which brings together the winners of all the national competitions every year, from 6 to 8 July. The 2022 edition of the International Brain Bee will be organised remotely by the Institute, together with the International Brain Bee Committee and the FENS (Federation of European Neuroscience Societies).
ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL BRAIN BEE COMPETITION
Founded by Dr Norbert Myslinski at the University of Maryland in 1999, the International Brain Bee competition now has over 50 participating countries. IBB is a non-profit educational organisation formed through partnerships with the International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO), the Dana Foundation, the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
